Marion County Tourist Development Council to consider developing
tourism in Marion County. The plan to promote Ocala is drawing criticizm after years of lackluster performance.
Marion County Commissioners are hearing suggestions from around the popular Central Florida Tourist Destination Marion County. Governor Rick Scott is ready to put Florida's Economy back in good health. State Agencies such as DCA and FDEP
are reportedly being asked to stop the No Growth activities of the past decade. Old Bad Management Practices are falling
as new pro-growth economic development ideas take hold. Tourist and retirees are a great source of revenue and growth
with very little negative impact.
EDC Marion County
is working to restore the commercial, environmental and recreational value to Silver Springs. Used as a out flow for
Ocala and Gainesville storm-water for years, Silver Springs is failing. Once a source of economic growth the springs
are now a prime flush point for Gainesville sewer effluent from the Kanapaha Sewer plant, according to documents detailing
the millions of gallons of nutrient rich sewer effluent discharged daily into the Floridan Aquifer just up stream from Rainbow
and Silver Springs. Old BMP's, Bad Management Practices are being addressed as fast as possible but it takes time. New
Sewage to Bio Fuel using algae may be the answer.
New EDC, Economic Development Council has also requested an end to the promotion of Ocala with our effort to create jobs. Ocala was once 60% of the Marion County
population but now represents only 18% or less. No horse farms and no springs, Ocala is a great charming city that
will benefit from a more successful Marion County. Leading tourism in every category is Marion County's Villages, the
leading commercial success in the US in the retirement Category. Visitors are a leading source of positive
commerce for the Villages. Each visitor spends time and money in an estimated 2.5 towns while in visiting central Florida,
according to Best Florida Visit data. Marion County Chamber of Commerce calls for economic development for all of Marion County.
